Dr. Maria Kibicho has international experience in Veterinary Medicine that spans over twenty years. Her interest in animal health began once she realized how pets enrich human lives through true love and genuine loyalty. It was spurred by a passion to study the interconnections between human and animal health.
Dr. Kibicho is enthusiastic about all aspects of Veterinary Medicine but holds a keen interest in emergency medicine, surgery, and dental health. Dr. Kibicho’s patient-focused approach has led the Hospital to develop a uniquely integrated health and wellness model marrying acupuncture and herbal medicine into western medicine. She finds joy in improving the life of her patients and their families. For “each of the pet-patient that she cares for brings love to their human counterparts.”
When not in work scrubs, Dr. Kibicho enjoys reading, skating, skiing, and jogging in the woods with family and Matilda, the loyal poodle.
Dr. Julie Calvert’s dream of becoming a veterinarian reached its pinnacle when she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Guelph in 2020. Upon graduation, Dr. Calvert cared for both big and small animals: cows, horses, cats, dogs and chickens. With time, she discovered her true passion for companion animals, which led her to become a valued member of the Quinte Animal Hospital team in 2021.
Dr. Calvert is Fear Free certified. She ensures that her patients have stress-free and quality experiences during their visits. Her main interests in veterinary medicine are dermatology and geriatric medicine.
In her leisure time, Dr. Calvert enjoys practicing yoga, exploring new destinations through travel, and spending time outdoors alongside her husband and their two lovable mastiffs: Moose and Frankenstein. When she’s in a cozy mood, you might find her immersed in a captivating book, with her two cats: Callie and Nala.
Dr. Katelyn Tilma’s lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian led her to complete her Veterinary degree at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2020. Her journey includes volunteering with a wildlife educational outreach group and caring for non-releasable birds of prey. This love for animals has taken her to British Columbia, New-Zealand, and Uganda.
After graduation, Dr. Katelyn (Dr. Kate) settled in Prince Edward County. She quickly discovered her passion in treating companion animals: dogs and cats. She provides comprehensive, high-quality, and patient-centered care to all. She is interested in emergency medicine and diagnostic ultrasound.
Dr. Kate shares her life with Jemmy, a Pyrenees mutt, who takes his role as the clinic’s staff greeter seriously. She also welcomed Dolly, a senior kitty with a remarkable weight loss journey. Jemmy enjoys trail walks and beach trips, while Dolly prefers napping along to Netflix, Kindle books, and tea. Dr. Kate loves making them happy.
Jenna Riess graduated from St. Lawrence College in 2015. Her career is driven by a strong commitment to the delivery of excellent medical care to her pet-patients and their families.
As a certified Fear Free Professional, Jenna has mastered multiple techniques that eliminate fear, anxiety and stress related to hospital visits. She safeguards her patients’ physical and emotional well-being at all times. Jenna also has a passion for animal nutrition.
Outside of work, her two dogs, two cats and son keep her busy. Jenna loves photography and exploring new hiking trails.
Paulette serves as our Lead Registered Veterinary Technician, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to her role. She earned her Veterinary Technician diploma from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 2004, following the completion of her Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
Originally from the East Coast, Paulette relocated to Ontario with her family in 2018. She is a proud military spouse to her husband, Kyle, and a devoted mother to her two sons, Ryan and Aaron. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her dogs, traveling, reading, and making memories with family and friends.
Paulette is especially passionate about providing a “Fear Free” experience in veterinary care. She holds a Level 2 Fear Free Certification and a Silver Certification in Low Stress Handling. In addition to her clinical skills, she takes great pride in mentoring others and building lasting relationships with clients and their pets.
Elizabeth Barry’s passion in combining science and animal welfare began when she completed her Biotechnologist diploma at Loyalist College in 2015. In 2018, Elizabeth took her love for animals a step further by graduating from St Lawrence College as a Registered Veterinary Technologist.
Elizabeth is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. She holds two special certifications as a Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional and as an Elite Fear Free Certified Professional. Thus, she is dedicated to ensuring that her patients have high quality and stress-free visits. Her primary interests are: feline medicine, surgery, and animal behavior.
When the warm weather arrives, you can find Elizabeth on the rugby field, playing for our local team, the Belleville Bulldogs. In the colder months, she enjoys spending quality time indoors with her husband and their two tabby cats: Zelda and Steel.
Nikole’s lifelong love for animals began in childhood and blossomed into a career path during a high school co-op placement at a veterinary hospital. Inspired by that experience, she pursued her passion and graduated from St. Lawrence College in 2023 with an advanced diploma in Veterinary Technology. In 2024, she officially became a Registered Veterinary Technician.
Nikole has worked with both large and companion animals, ultimately discovering her strongest interest lies in companion animal care. She enjoys all aspects of the veterinary hospital environment—from helping patients feel safe and comfortable to building positive relationships with clients and their pets.
When summer arrives, Nikole spends her weekends at the barn with her horse Mina, competing in barrel racing events. In the winter, she swaps her saddle for snowboards and figure skates. At home, she delights in spoiling her two cats, Coco and Bea.
Taralee Haagsma graduated from St. Lawrence College with a Diploma in Veterinary Technology in 2011.
Taralee’s love for animals started during her childhood. She grew up on a small farm where pigs were her best friends. At the age of 19, Taralee embarked on a volunteering adventure in Africa where she took care of lions. She continued her wildlife adventures in the Guatemalan jungle where she took care of howler monkeys, parrots, and macaws as a volunteer. This life-changing experience inspired her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Taralee holds a Fear Free certification. She offers patient-centered care that ensures that animals are stress-free and comfortable. Her interests include dental health, animal nutrition, and animal behavior.
When not working, Taralee enjoys traveling – she has visited more than 18 countries. She also cherishes spending quality time with her two children, her fiancé, three cats and Hank, the family dog.
Sarah Alexander has been a member of the Quinte Animal Hospital team since 2016. Her dedication shines through in her commitment to delivering exceptional services to both clients and their beloved companions. Sarah’s profound love for animals is what makes the veterinary profession a perfect fit for her.
Sarah’s expertise and passion lie in fear-free techniques, ensuring that patients are comfortable and at ease throughout their visits. She also plays a crucial role in staff wellbeing as the hospital’s diligent Health and Safety representative.
When not at work, Sarah enjoys hiking, reading, watching movies, and exploring new destinations through travels. She values spending time with her family and her furry companions: Henry, the goldendoodle; and Libby, the kitty. They both bring immense joy to her life.
Paula Bailey joined Quinte Animal Hospital in 2022.
Paula holds a wealth of experience and her commitment to providing quality customer service shines through. Her passion for animals fuels her determination to offer best care for their furry friends.
Outside of work, Paula’s adventurous spirit takes over. She loves spending her free time outdoors – hiking through scenic trails, embarking on exciting drives, or enjoying a game of volleyball. Paula can also be found watching murder documentaries and Grey’s Anatomy.
